Liberty Traditional Saddleback students participated in “Love of Reading” the week of Feb. 11. The school had various community members visit and read to the students each of the five days.

There were representatives from the Douglas Police Department, Border Patrol and the City of Douglas.

On Feb. 14 Mayor Danny Ortega Jr. read to Mr. Ed Mealy and Ms. Johanna Ortiz’s kindergarten class.

The students enjoyed the mayor reading “The giving tree” by Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss’s “The cat in the hat”.

“It’s very important for the students to hear adults reading,” Mealy said. “They need to know that successful people read.”

“They (community) really support our school,” he added.
