Bulldog netters blank Flowing Wells in opener

The Douglas Bulldog tennis team kicked off its season Friday beating Flowing Wells 9-0 in Tucson.


Gabe Melgoza, playing No. 1 singles for Douglas, was a 6-4, 7-6 winner.

Jesus Moreno, playing in the No. 2 spot, was a 6-1, 6-2 winner.

John Owen was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 3 singles.

Lucas Grijalva was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles.

Diego Luy won his No. 5 singles match 6-1, 7-6 winner and Ben Rivera posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play Melgoza and Grijalva; Moreno and Owen and Luy and Rivera all won their matches by scores of 9-0.

“The kids played really well considering it was their first match,” Douglas’ tennis coach David Campas said.
