Upon arrival officers were notified that workers had discovered several large bundles of marijuana inside a box of squash they were handing out to local residents.
Douglas Food Bank Manager Javier Fimbres said once a month the local food bank receives deliveries from Tucson and the squash went to Tucson after being picked up in Nogales.
“The truck should have been here on Monday but because it was President’s Day it came on Friday,” he said.
Upon discovery Fimbres notified the local authorities who came in and took custody of the marijuana.
The pot, which had a combined weight of 114 pounds, was transported back to the Douglas Police Department and from there returned to Tucson where TPD is continuing its investigation.
Wilkinson said no evidence of criminal misconduct on behalf of the Douglas Food Bank employees was discovered.
