Mother Nature blew through Douglas last week bringing with it more snow.

Since December there have been five separate snowfalls in Douglas and while the combined snow fall totals have not totaled up to a foot of snow many residents were pleased by what they saw and looking forward to what should be a very green spring.

Local roads were somewhat icy Thursday morning but local residents seemed to use caution when traveling to work.

Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Department reported there were no accidents as a result of the weather.

That was not the case on Highway 80 however.

Shortly before midnight Thursday morning a Chevy Malibu slid off the road near the Whitewater bridge and went down an estimated 15 feet into a ravine.

DPS officers said the driver, who is not being identified but that the vehicle was registered out of Douglas, suffered minor injuries and the cause of the accident “appears to be due to icy roads.”

DUSD held school as normal Thursday while Omega Alpha declared a snow day.

County roads that had been closed due to the storm were open by mid morning along with most county, state and federal offices.

The snow appears to be over and temps this coming week call for Douglas to be in the high 60’s and low 70’s with nights to be in the low to mid 30’s.

March 20 is the first day of spring.
