There will be a FFA Community Onion Planting Workshop this Saturday at the DHS land lab located at 1700 Louis Ave.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants will learn the steps to prepare the soil for planting and how to plant onions. Event organizers say this will be a hands on workshop so those taking part need to be ready to “dig in”.

The FFA will also have onion starts available for purchase at a cost of $3 a bunch which is about 55-75 onions.

Varieties include Texas super sweet (sweet yellow), yellow granex, red burgundy and crystal wax white.

Call the Douglas Ag Department at 364-2447, extension 7600 for more information.

The event is supported by the Bulldog 4-H Club and The Douglas Mercado Farmer’s Market.

While this event is going on the 4-H kids will be building a hoop house and automatic watering equipment at the same location.

Parking for the event is at Joe Carlson School.
