Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels wants to alert the public of a new scam that has been reported to the Sheriff’s Office.

Three times in the past few days callers have reported that someone calls them advising that they are from a company such as Microsoft, etc. The caller is then advised that they apparently have a virus on their computer and the person calling needs to get the user name and password so the computer can be fixed and secured.

Of the three people reporting these calls, one actually provided the information and after thinking about it, contacted the Sheriff’s Office. Several support service providers such as Quest and HP Arizona have advised that they have heard of this type of scam as well.

Sheriff Dannels warns that you should never give out any information to people who call you requesting personal information, passwords, or other identifying information.

“Don’t be a victim. Please be smart and protect yourself by guarding your information closely,” Dannels said.

" I just had someone from the phone number 740 751-3157 try and scam me. The Indian from India sounding lady spoke quickly and was very hard to hear. There was alot of background noise. She tried to scam me but it didn't work. When I asked her for her microsoft phone number, she hung up on me. Then, I called the number an American sounding male answered the phone and quickly cursed me out. 2/25/13, Riverside, Ca. "
