Edwardo “Eddie” Valdez

March 30, 1955-January 28, 2013

Longtime Douglas resident Edwardo “Eddie” Valdez passed away on January 28, 2013.

Eddie graduated from Douglas High School in 1973 and pursued his education at Cochise College where he graduated in 1975. Eddie was a 27 year member of the law enforcement family. He began law enforcement with the Cochise County Sheriffs Department in 1975 and worked there for nine years from there he worked for the Douglas Police Department in 1985 for eighteen years retiring as Lieutenant of Investigations. Eddie then worked as LAS Prevention officer for JC Penney from there he began working for SEABHS which then became Pinal Hispanic Counseling. Eddie’s hobbies included collecting cars-he had his own car lot at home in which he was very proud of. He had a passion for car racing where he enjoyed watching his son and nephews race as well as many friends. When he wasn’t watching car races he could be found at the 8th Street Park cheering on Beer Money men’s softball team which his son plays on or at the 15th Street Park rooting for Las Grissy’s women’s softball team which his daughter played on with his can of Diet Coke in one hand and bag of sunflower seeds in the other. When he wasn’t at car races or at the parks he enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family whether in Douglas or out of town.

Eddie is preceded in death by his father Efrain “Surdo” Valdez. Eddie leaves behind his wife of 33 years Rosalie and two children Tricia and Steven; mother Rosa Pinedo Valdez as well as siblings Mary Ellen Valdez-Medeguari (Tony) and Melissa Ibarra (Henry). He leaves behind numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Pallbearers are Gary Maestas, Jr., Henry Ibarra, Alex Medeguari, Albert Estrada, David Munoz, Jr., Ricky Garcia, Michael Munoz and Danny Amarillas.

Honorary Pallbearers are all family and friends.

Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church.

Eddie was a well known man by many people. He had a smile that never left his face. When he wasn’t at McDonald’s or Carl’s Jr., he was making his way around town visiting family and friends. He was the kind of person that would always stop and say hi to you whether he knew you or not. He was the type of person that never said “no” he always put other people in front of himself. Eddie was always willing to help in any way he could whether it was changing a light bulb at work to helping with different fundraisers. Eddie will be missed by many especially his family and friends---we will always cherish the wonderful memories and beautiful smile and one day we will all be together again as a family.

Care entrusted to Brown Page Mortuary 364-3434.

He was one of those few individuals who wanted to make an impact. He understood what community service implied dedication. Rest in peace. "
