The 11th Annual Paul Denham Memorial Elementary Basketball Tournament will be taking place Saturday, Feb. 23 in the DHS gym.

The day long event will feature elementary teams from Sarah Marley, Stevenson, Clawson, Joe Carlson and Faras elementary schools.

Practices and tryouts began last week and the exact number of teams competing will be known in the coming weeks.

The DHS boys and girls basketball teams, under the supervision of their coaches Oscar Mariscal and Clint Hill, will referee the games and the Lady Bulldog Basketball Club will run the concession stand.

" I wish the district can get the community, "parents", more involved so that we can have our old 4th and 5th grade basketball leagues. Many years we volunteered and supported the kids at all the schools. It can be done. If this town can support the High School sports and all the other sports leagues this can be done. Unfortunately if people don't get paid they wont do it for too long. A good three month program can really help our kids. Good Luck to all the boys and girls this year. Maybe for next years tournament this can be the championship for an elementary basketball league! "

" Why was CAS not invited back to this tournament? Was it because they have won/placed every year and district adults got upset? The title of the tournament is "Paul Denham Memorial Elementary Basketball Tournament" not the "Paul Denham Memorial District Elementary Basketball Tournament." Very unfair to let those kids play for 3 years and then disinvite them. "
