Bulldog matmen split match

The Douglas Bulldog wrestling team was in Tucson last week for a triangular match with Amphi and CDO.

The Bulldogs went 1-1 on the day beating Amphi 42-36 while losing to CDO 42-41.

Against Amphi, Thomas Cardenas won by pin in 1:06 at 106-pounds.

Rogelio Martinez at 113 and Cristian Ross at 120 both won their matches by forfeit.

At 126-pounds there was a double forfeit.

Douglas forfeited its 132 and 138 pound classes.

Armando Vasquez was pinned in 1:23 at 145 pounds.

Raymond Alvarez at 152 and Brandon Moreno at 160 both won their matches by forfeit.

Davida Vasquez was pinned in 5:21 at 170 while Carlos Estrada was pinned in 60 seconds at 182-pounds.

James Briseno won by forfeit at 195; Antonio Lamadrid was pinned in 2:58 at 220 and Nick Leigh won by forfeit at 285.

Against CDO Cardenas (106), Martinez (113) and Ross (120) all won their matches by forfeit.

Douglas forfeited its 126 and 138 pound classes.

Jacob Ybarra was pinned in 54 seconds at 132-pounds.

Vasquez lost by fall at 145 in 3:37; Alvarez was pinned in 2:53 at 152 and Moreno was pinned in 5:19 at 160.

Vasquez won by fall in 3:01 at 170 while Estrada won by technical fall, 15-0, at 182-pounds.

Briseno was pinned in 3:23 at 195 while Lamadrid at 220 and Leigh at 285 both won their matches by forfeit.

Douglas’ wrestling coach Richard Ross said his kids wrestled well in both matches and just came up short against CDO.

Against Amphi Ross said the match was tied 36-36 when Cardenas pinned his opponent at 106 giving the Bulldogs the win.

Sectionals for division three take place this Saturday at Sabino High School in Tucson. Ross said the top four in each weight class will qualify for the state tournament scheduled for Feb. 8-9 in Presccott.
