The Bulldogs scored two first half goals and controlled the game from start to finish. Junior Johnny Monarrez scored the Bulldogs first goal at the 12th minute mark on a header from a corner kick by Hiram Iniquez.
Then at the 27th minute, Javier Buelna scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out. Douglas outshot Thatcher 16-4, with goalie Marc Gonzalez having two saves.
Bulldog soccer coach Ken Cormier said he was very pleased with how well the defensive unit of Fernando Chacon, Johnny Monarrez and Javier Buelna played, completely shutting down Thatcher's offensive efforts.
"Although we coaches were pleased with the overall results, not having a match in over two weeks certainly was evident in our overall play,” he said. “I'm sure the cold and wind didn't help either, but we really need to improve in all facets of our game for next week matches."
The Bulldogs are currently ranked fifth in the state for Division III, and played at Safford on Tuesday night.
Douglas is at home Wednesday against Empire High School and on Friday against Nogales.
The junior varsity plays at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
