McGuire, Katherine Mimica, 92, formerly of Douglas, died at her home in Phoenix, AZ on Friday, December, 14, 2012 after a courageous fight against heart disease.



She was born in Douglas, Arizona on April 20, 1920 to Vincent (Vice) and Anastacia Mimica. She went to school in Douglas graduating from Douglas High School in 1938 and married her high school sweetheart, Jerrold Davis. They had their first child, Marianne. They lived in Douglas and Tombstone until WWII broke out and Katherine moved back to Douglas when her husband went overseas. Katherine and her sister Marianne Wall went to work at the Douglas Air Force Base until the war ended. Sometime after his return they were divorced. She later met and married Carleton F. Casper and together they opened Casper's Music Store located in the old Kazal building where Calloway’s Sporting Goods Store and Meloy's Real Estate were also located. In 1948, they moved to New Mexico, where they lived in Roswell and Gallup. This marriage produced their other two children, Carol and Carleton. They were later divorced and Katherine returned to Douglas due to her health. She worked at the Cochise College Library, where she retired in 1990. During this time she met and married Eugene “Mickey” McGuire, who died in 1973. She enjoyed gardening, walking with her friends and attending church and visiting her children. Her dogs always brought her great joy. After the death of her sister Bessie, Katherine moved to Phoenix to live with her daughter Carol.

In the summer she enjoyed visiting and travelling with her sister Marianne Wall of Virginia, and spending time with her daughter Marianne in New Mexico.

Katherine is survived by her daughters Marianne Davis Bray (Harold), Carol Casper Greenwalt (Don), and Carleton F. Casper II; grandchildren, Rick and Jerry Necoechea; Edward M. Messman and Annette Taylor; Don, Dan and Deb Greenwalt and Jason Bray; great-grandchildren Eric, Ashley and Tyler Necoechea; and Denie, Michael, Megan and David Greenwalt; and Noah, Alex and Avery Messman; Aaron, Jason and Dillon Taylor; and five great-great grandchildren. Also, one niece, Fredericka Wall and one nephew, John Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Lillian Mimica Quesada, Alice Mimica, Marianne Mimica Wall, and Bessie Mimica Jackson.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Phoenix, AZ on January 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Hillside Baptist Church. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Douglas on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Her final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery in the Mimica Family plot.
