Bulldogs finish fifth in Benson tourney

The Douglas Bulldogs placed fifth at the Benson Holiday Tournament this past weekend.

Bisbee won the tournament Saturday night beating Tanque Verde 48-37.

Douglas began the tournament falling to Empire 54-33 as Eduardo Ysea scored 12 points and Ignacio Valenzuela followed with eight.

On Friday Dec. 7 the Bulldogs beat San Miguel 53-40 behind Fernando Diaz’ 19 points. Luis Padilla contributed eight.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs played Welton for fifth place. Douglas won the game 61-28 as Bobby Zamora scored 11 points and Daniel Valenzuela and Ysea each had eight.

Before the tournament the Bulldogs hosted Tombstone in the DHS gym. The Bulldogs came away with a 67-59 win.

Ysea led Douglas in scoring with 22 points, Ignacio Valenzuela followed with 10 and Nick Menduett contributed eight.

The Bulldogs are back in action this week playing at Bisbee on Thursday and at Cholla on Friday.
