League President Ken Nelson recognized his coaches in all four divisions. Nelson said between the football and cheerleaders there were an estimated 175 kids who played this year.

The flag Chargers finished the year with a 3-5 record; the mighty mite Chargers went 0-8 and the peewee and midget Charger squads both were 4-3.

Nelson presented Enrique “Red” Hurtado, coach of the peewee Chargers, and Carlos Lamadrid, coach of the midget Chargers, with Coach of the Year honors.

Each player was given a nice trophy and each coach handed out special awards for the best lineman, MVP, etc. In all an estimated 40 certificates were handed out.

Nelson also recognized his cheer coaches who had an outstanding effort at the county competition in Benson Nov. 10. The mighty mite, peewee and midget squads all came in first place while the flag took second.

The league president also handed out several special recognition awards to organizations and individuals who helped out the Chargers this past season.

Nelson said those players who still have their equipment or did not get their trophy Saturday need to call him at (520) 220-1996 and make arrangements to drop off their equipment and pick up their trophy. He added he will only hold the trophies for a short while.

" I respect the concerns of "Priorities" but the pictures shown here only reflect a miniscule portion of the ceremony. The ceremony awarded individual trophies to ALL of the youth participants prior to the appreciation shown to the volunteer coaches. The entire season is about the kids and helping them to become not only the best individual players they can be, but also the best team players and community members they can be. I am proud to be part of the Chargers Organization along with all of the other volunteers who are out there with these kids. I personally do not need a trophy or plaque in order to volunteer my time, but it is a token that what we do for our local kids is appreciated.
If "Priorities" thinks they can make things better then they should join as a volunteer and help make the program better instead of complaining about the people who are so dedicated to promoting our local youth programs.
I know I could not have Coached the PeeWee Cheerleaders if it had not been for my co-Coach and especially the DHS Cheerleaders and Ms. Arnejo and I wish I could give them all something to express my appreciation. It takes a village to get the best out of our kids and we can be proud and supportive of the village we have around the Chargers. "

" This article and it's two pictures CLEARLY show us what this pop warner program is about. The ADULTS. Not one player named or pictured. Sad. "
