The Consulate of Mexico in Douglas and the City of Douglas present the photography exhibition "En el Nobre de Dios (In the Name of God)" by Sonoran artist Alejandra Platt-Torres at the Douglas Government Center starting Nov. 5.

The exhibition consists of 57 photographs of the people and states of Baja California, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Tabasco, Sonora, Veracruz and Yucatan.

“Generations of my family have lived by means of land that belonged to indigenous people - and that we are not the only family in Mexico who lives this way. We are part of the majority and that weighs heavily on my heart,” Platt-Torres said on www.headon.com.au/blog/name-god-alejandra-platt. “What I long to demonstrate with this photographic exposition is the admiration I possess for my race, not that of United States but that of my own country, and I offer you these photographs as a homage to the suffering that we continue to cause.”

Platt-Torres’s work has been awarded by the JUMEX Foundation, the Mexican National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA) and the Arizona Humanities Council.

Her portraits have been exhibited around the world in over 30 exhibitions such as the Image Center at the Mexican National Institute of Arts, the Jose Luis Cuevas Museum, the Embassy of Mexico in Denmark, the State of Arizona Museum, and the Center for Mexican-American Studies and the School of Arts at the University of Texas, in Austin.

For further information on the upcoming exhibit contact the Mexican Consulate at (520) 364-3107.
