An Omega Alpha Academy student was struck by a vehicle at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 15.

According to Douglas Police Department Public Information Officer, Jose Duarte, a vehicle traveling west bound on 15th Street between Cochise Ave. and Louis Ave. struck the 12 year old student.

“The student darted between cars,” Duarte said.

Medics on the scene believed the student sustained a fractured leg and was evacuated by air to University Medical Center in Tucson for a higher level of care.

The driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug use and was not speeding. The accident is still under investigation. No citations were issued at the accident.

Omega Alpha Academy is location on 1402 San Antonio Avenue, the school has designated student drop off zones but students find it quicker to be dropped off on 15th Street. There currently are no school crossings on 15th Street
