Douglas’ Relay for Life honored at Great West Relay Summit

The Relay for Life of Douglas was honored at the Great West Relay for Life Summit, held in Phoenix this past weekend. They were presented the “Gordy’s HOPE” Award for being Arizona’s only 24-hour event.


They also received third place in percentage growth for having a 77 percent increase in fundraising for 2011.

The 2012 Relay for Life will be held Saturday, October 6 – Sunday, October 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Copper King Baseball stadium.

On Saturday, September 22, there will be an all-team hamburger fundraiser at the American Legion Post #11, 1325 N. G Avenue, Douglas. Two burgers, a bag of chips and either a soda or water will be sold for a $5 donation.

This year’s event is sponsored by Wal-Mart Supercenter, DUSD #27, City of Douglas, DJ Legacy, Lomeli’s Childcare Center, Ana & Joe, Bojorquez Recycling, Chuck Hoyack & Roberto E. Muñoz Families, and Las Dos Comadres.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. Founded in 1913 and with national headquarters in Atlanta, the Society has 13 regional Divisions and local offices in 3,400 communities, involving millions of volunteers across the United States.
