Nogales came into the game looking to keep its unbeaten streak in tact while the Bulldogs were hoping to get their first win after going 0-3 to start the season.

The Apaches took the opening kickoff and marched straight at the Bulldog defense behind the running of senior Brian McCarty, who eventually scored from nine yards out giving the Apaches a quick 6-0 lead after missing the extra point.

The Apaches would score on their second possession of the game as well on a 12-yard TD pass taking a 13-0 lead.

The Bulldogs took the ensuing drive and starting at their own 35, drove down to the Apache 24 before turning the ball over on downs.

The Apaches needed just one play to find a hole in the Bulldog defense completing a 76-yard TD pass giving Nogales a 20-0 lead, still in the first quarter.

Douglas’ next drive began at its down 19 and this time the Dogs did convert the drive into points as quarterback Blaze Rose hit Fernando Rojas for a three yard TD pass with 2.7 seconds left in the opening quarter. Rose missed the extra point as Nogales led 20-6.

The Apaches made a rare mistake on its next possession early in the second quarter fumbling the ball over to Douglas where Hector Vasquez scooped it up and rambled into the end zone for touchdown. Rose’s extra point would again be no good but the Bulldogs had clawed back to way into the game pulling within eight.

In the next 10 minutes of the half the Apaches would score 17 straight points increasing what had been an eight point lead into a 37-12 lead at the half.

Nogales would score two more times in the third quarter and once in the fourth handing Douglas its worst loss of the season.

According to Douglas’ statistician Riki Valdez the Apaches would finish with 571 yards in total offense with 368 coming on the ground; 203 through the air. McCarty would finish the night with 19 carries for 221 yards and four TD’s.

Douglas would finish with 235 yards in total offense with 46 coming on the ground and 189 through the air.

Rose would finish the night 18 of 34 in passing with one TD and no interceptions. He was also 12 for 39 yards in rushing. Dylan Guerrero had three carries for seven yards.

Guerrero also had four receptions for 66 yards; Matt Nelson five for 52; Ozzie Moreno two for 23; Mark Romero two for 25; Rojas two for 10; Fernando Chacon two for four and David Vasquez one for nine.

The Bulldogs, 0-4, will be on the road the next two weeks taking on Desert View, who is also 0-4, this Friday night and Palo Verde next Friday.

" What is happening with the team man???? Did Keith not say during two-a-days that this team was the strongest team he's ever coached on the July 25th edition of the dispatch? Then why are these kids always getting blown back at the line of scrimmage, and always getting pushed around? This season has been a disappointment. Let's hope that they can at least beat Bisbee. "
