Co-owned and operated by Jenea Sanchez and Robert Uribe, Galiano’s, located at 1113 G Ave., will also offer fruit smoothies, veggie sandwiches and deli style sandwiches.

Sanchez a Douglas native and Uribe from New York want people to have a cool place to linger.

“All our fruit and vegetables will be fresh and locally bought,” Sanchez said. “We will have fruit and vegetable smoothies.”

Their coffee beans will be purchased through “Fair Trade” coffee growers.

Sanchez and Uribe plan on incorporating both their cultures into not only the atmosphere but also their drinks and food.

“I’m from the Dominican Republic and we use a lot of papaya and zapote in our drinks,” Uribe said.

“We’ll also have tamarindo, fruit cocktails with chili and fruit with chamoy,” Sanchez added.

For Sanchez and Uribe this is more of a passion than a huge business venture.

“There wasn’t any place to sit and relax in Douglas,” Uribe said. “We want to open a space for people to feel like they are in a different world.”

Galiano’s will also provide a place for local artist to display their work and talents.

“We plan to have an open mic night once a month,” Sanchez said. “Local artist will be able to put their work up in the café and we’ll change it up.”

Sanchez, who has a degree in Intermedia and Arts, said “we have a lot of space in the back. This is our platform to open that space up for kids to come in and take classes and workshops in art.”

Sanchez and Uribe anticipate opening in two weeks.

“We still have some work to do, we need to bring in our counters and cappuccino machines,” the new owners said.

Galiano’s will be open Monday-Friday 7a.m.-8p.m; Saturday 9a.m.-8p.m. and on Sunday from 10a.m.-5p.m., Galiano’s will also offer free Wi-Fi.

“This place is for the Douglas community, they can bring their ideas here, they can feel like they are in a different word, where there are no limitations, and enjoy a hot espresso and tropical smoothie” Uribe said.

" Been there and really liked sandwiches. I love your juices. Rest of my family loves your coffee and smoothies. Saw a lot of items with X, good thing you are selling out but was hoping to get what i wanted. I understand inventory is difficult just starting out fortunately you have so many great selections on menu. Wish you continued success. "

" When you have all this businesses closing around Douglas, it's refreshing to see a business like yours opening up here. You will succeed because like you said, there are no places in Douglas to sit back and have a good cup of coffee and converse or have a cool sandwich. Good luck but beware, Starbucks may follow you when they find out about your success. "

Hopefully none if they want to succeed! You and los pobres sound like a bunch of lazy uneducated losers. It seems on every one of your comments you're asking for a handout. I would close my store before I hired you or your buddies. "
