The City of Douglas is organizing and sponsoring a community Cleanup Day on Sept. 8 from 7a.m. – 12p.m.

The event is intended to be a community event where all age groups have the opportunity to participate. The city would like to see clean-up of properties throughout the city to include vacant lots and alley ways.

The city is asking for the participation of businesses and community members in hope of beautifying the city.

According to Alma Andrade, Executive Assistant to City Manager, 75 invitations have been sent out to organizations asking for participation, but only three have replied. The City is still looking for more volunteers to help out.

After the cleanup the city will be hosting a community picnic at the Veteran’s Park, Eighth Street, from 12-1p.m.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for the cleanup call Alma Andrade at (520) 417-7302.

" Why don't Douglas Citizen and his band of Los Pobres clean up the town. They don't have jobs and need something to do. Also they were the ones who trashed the town anyway. "

" Instead of cleaning up alleys and vacant lots why not clean up the corruption in Douglas from the city government to prison guards to school officials. "
