China and Texaco Country Showdown signup deadline August 31

Applications are still being taken for China Poblana. Deadline to enter will be August 31, there is an entry fee of $25, and each participant must sell at least 25 tickets in order to be considered for selection.


Participates may run in one of five different categories: Toddler China 2-4 year olds, Little China Poblana 5-8 year olds, Junior China Poblana 9-12 year olds, Teen China 13-16 year olds and Miss China Poblana 17-21 year olds.

Winners of the China Poblana will receive a China Poblana dress and hat. Miss China will also receive a $500 scholarship.

In addition the China’s will participate in various parades and events in and outside of Douglas throughout their term.

The China selection and dance will be held at the Bushmasters Club on September 8 at 7p.m. The winners will be crowned on September 14 at the Douglas Fiestas held at 8th Street Park.

Also still being taken are applications for the Texaco Country Showdown, which will be held Sept. 14 at the Douglas Fiestas.

Competition for the showdown will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at 7:30p.m. Applications available at Shoe Salon or KDAP, a $20 entry fee for the Texaco Country Showdown is due at sign up.
