Starting on Wednesday, May 9, one-on-one job assistance will be available at the Douglas Public Library as a result of an intergovernmental agreement between the Arizona State Library and the City of Douglas, celebrated at the City Council Regular meeting held in March.

At the meeting, Human Resources Director Ana Urquijo informed to the Mayor and Council that the Douglas Library was the recipient of a reimbursable grant funding under the Arizona Job Assistance Center Project. The funding source is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and administered through the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records.

The fund will support the deployment of broadband infrastructure and enhanced computer centers in communities for the public’s use to search for a job.

Urquijo also informed at the meeting about the need of hiring a part-time instructor to administer the program through these grant funds.

This month, Douglas resident Del Cabarga was hired to fill the position and start working on the project.

Cabarga said that although this is an ongoing program that has been available at the Library for some time now, personalized job assistance will be available thanks to the grant.

He said that one-on-one sessions for job seekers wanting to enhance their job readiness and or job related computer skills will be for free and available by making an appointment. Session topics include:

Online Job Searching: Discover how to navigate employment websites.

Resume and Cover Letter: Find out how to compose a resume and cover letter.

Interview Skills: Be inspired to give a confident interview by learning how to prepare for questions ahead of time.

Email Basics: Create and set up an online email account.

Microsoft Word: Learn how to create, edit, and save a Word document.

The library’s job assistance lab is equipped with a desk top, portable laptop, printer, projector and screen.

Each session is structured for the individual to work towards meeting their job related goals and it will remain confidential.
