Investigation into bomb threats continues

Douglas Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into two bomb threats in two days at Douglas High School.

The first call came in Wednesday, Feb. 8 around 7:15 a.m. when a male caller had left a voicemail on the school’s answering system indicating that “a device” was at the school.

The approximately 1,000 students who were at the school at that time were removed from class to a nearby ball field where they sat and waited while local law enforcement personnel searched the school.

Douglas Police Officers with assistance of the Cochise County Sheriffs Deputies, U.S. Border Patrol Agents, Douglas Unified School District Security and Arizona Department of Public Safety Gang Officers all responded and conducted a search of the school classrooms, parking lot and perimeter which resulted in no devices being found or observed.

Approximately 90 minutes after the call was received students were allowed to return to class.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, shortly after 7 a.m. someone called the school again and this time actually spoke to one of the school personnel telling them there was a device at the school.

This time however school had been scheduled for a 10 a.m. start that day so no students, just school personnel, had to be evacuated as the campus was once again searched. Again no device was found.

Fearing a third call may come in on Friday, Feb. 10, school and law enforcement personnel were on heightened alert. No call came in that day and school went on without any interruptions.

Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Dept. said they have some leads in the case and the investigation continues.

    " Caller ID doesn't help when the call is from Mexico. But DPD and DUSD are looking into everything and will bring this idiot to justice. He has cost the city thousands! "

    " Its likely it was a student, and called from his own house...lol Or maybe the police just had to look for whomever was absent that day to figure it out. Caller ID and such. I hope they do figure out if its a prank or something else. Get is solved quickly. "
