The Cochise College Apaches school record 17 game win streak came to an end last week when they were beaten 86-67 by the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters in Thatcher.

“They came to play,” Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo said. “I told our guys we were going to get their best game, ranked 10th in the country, 17-game winning streak. We got their best effort and we didn’t match it.”

Cochise played from behind from the start and the Gila Monsters took a 41-32 lead into the half.

“We just couldn’t get that one stop and they hit one big shot after another big shot,” Carrillo said. “They beat us fair and square.”

Michael Maya and Nathan Sobey led Cochise in scoring with each having 15 points, Ajak Magot had 11 points and Nnamdi Ezenwa contributed 10.

The Apaches host South Mountain tonight at 7:30 and will be at Pima on Saturday.
