DUSD approves hires at special meeting

The Douglas Unified School District Governing Board held a special meeting Dec. 20 to take care of some last minute hires before the holiday break.


During the consent portion of the agenda the board approved the hiring of Michelle Vasquez, Noemi Escalante, Brianna Owen-Nunez as teachers at Clawson Elementary; Floramae Tesky and Arely Del Rio as teachers at Douglas High School; Aurielle Jordan as a teacher at Faras Elementary and Eric Watkins as a teacher at Ray Borane Middle School.

Juan Escalante was approved as a new school volunteer at DHS and Roberto Flores, Juan Maldonado, Sandra Cabrera and Clarissa Rodriguez were approved as Supplemental Education Service tutors.

A resignation from Bobby Arnejo effective Jan. 3, 2012 was also approved.

The board gave its ok to an addenda for Michael Goodwin which will cover his additional duties/responsibilities as band and choir director at Douglas High School.

The board approved a $400 donation from Javier Sosa to the Douglas High School wrestling team; a $650 donation from David Hurtado to the Douglas High School baseball team; a $165 donation from the America United Way Campaign to Joe Carlson Elementary; a $130 donation from the Habitat for Humanity Sierra Vista Area to the Douglas High School Special Education Dept. and a $400 donation for the DHS Athletic Dept. from the Wells Fargo Community Support Campaign.

Following a brief executive session the board agreed to grant certified teacher Gavin Wharton release of his contract with no liquidated damages.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 in the board room of the Central Administration Building.
