The Douglas High School ladies softball team, “La Calentura,” sold hamburgers as part of their fund raiser to raise funds yo go to different softball tournaments this year.

The hamburger sale took place on Saturday, June 11, at the Sprint Store parking lot. The goal was to raise up to $5,000 which was the profit number from last’s year sale.

Mike Quiñonez, head coach, said “A lot of this come from the parents donating their time and effort, and it all comes from donations, which we’re very appreciative to the City of Douglas, and I think by them doing this the girls are more appreciative what they have accomplished so far, the meaning of the travel and the good balance this is in behalf of themselves. Plus, I believe that if they’re here, two hours in the daily practice and in the tournament time, those are two hours they don’t get in trouble.”

The profit from this sale, according to Quiñonez, is to cover expenses in individual insurance for the fifteen participating girls, besides covering tournament, equipment, and travel costs.

The next goal for the team is to attend to a state tournament in Las Vegas in October, Although the team is raising money through these types of activities, donations from public are welcome and most appreciated.
