The Douglas Girls Amateur Softball Association concluded its season this past weekend with three separate championship games.

On Saturday the Grand Café Diamondbacks defeated the Ortega’s Changitas 17-13 in mini’s championship action.

The next game between Resendiz Cabinet Brats and the Border Mart Tigers was tied 5-5 at the end of four innings of play when Mother Nature intervened. Play was suspended and resumed Sunday morning where Border Mart scored a run to post a 6-5 win forcing the “if” game for the championship later that day.

In the rematch Resendiz overcame a 5-0 first inning deficit to take a 6-5 championship win – the winning run coming in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

In juniors play Sunday the regular season champions the DECA Den Dawgs lost two games (including the “if” game) to Ely’s S.W.A.T. 6-5 and 6-2 as Ely’s came away tournament champions.

The tournament hadn’t been over 90 minutes when rain began to fall again and another potential delay was averted.

League officials say closing ceremonies will be held as soon as the trophies arrive.

" Also a big Congratulations to the Championship teams. It sounds like hard fought games all around. "

" Thank you to everyone for a great season. With only a few exceptions, the players and fans/families alike had great sportsmanship and a successful season for everyone whether they won or lost their games. It was a pleasure to watch it all and to help coach this year. And to those who were the exceptions, I hope next season will be better for you. "
